Effective communication is important in the healthcare setting not only just to reinforce residents’ safety, but also to deliver good customer service and enable the healthcare staff to better manage and handle difficult situations with confidence and competence tactfully, for example, applying the correct techniques to communicate with residents and their families coping with discomforts. Therefore, we have taken steps to ensure and enhance the language competency of healthcare staff to improve their communication skills between them and our residents so that they can converse accurately and independently with our residents. With this determination, ECON has planned out a structured language training programme for our healthcare staff which embarked since March this year.
The journey has been empowering and enriching as healthcare staff are able to acquire new skills that can better facilitate their work. Our residents and their sponsors applauded the programme and expressed satisfaction with the resultant animated and more meaningful interaction.
The team submitted the poster for the Language Training Programme – “Connecting You and Me” at the ILTC Quality Festival organised by the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC). The competition attracted 120 submissions and ECON was one of the 40 shortlisted participating organisations to showcase our poster design at the conference event of ILTC Quality Festival. The recognition served to motivate our team and spur them to engage in meaningful, value adding quality improvement projects.
